Flooding is not uncommon for people who live near larger bodies of water. Floods can occur anywhere in times of climate catastrophe. There are smaller floods regularly, for example when the snow melts after the winter.

But there are also the so-called "floods of the century", which cause a stir nationwide and are not forgotten for a long time. Like the summer flood of 2013, which turned large parts of southern, eastern and northern Germany into disaster areas. Another phenomenon is the increasing occurrence of heavy rain events, which can cause severe flooding far away from large bodies of water.
